Don’t Run Ads Until You’ve Done This
You spent four thousand dollars on ads last quarter and you can't point to one job that came from them.
Most business owners know they need better branding. They just keep putting it at the bottom of the list.
That’s understandable. When you’re running a business, branding feels like something to sort out once the “real work” settles down. But business doesn’t slow down, and in the meantime, a weak brand is costing you money.
Buyers make fast decisions. When someone lands on your website or finds you on social media, they form an opinion almost immediately. What they see either builds confidence or creates doubt. And doubt makes people take longer to commit, or simply choose someone else over you.
Most brands get built in stages. A logo first, then a website, then some social content when the budget or the need arises. By the time the business has grown, the brand has grown with it – just without any strategy holding it together. Every piece of marketing is working from a different brief.
The knock-on effect is that you end up working harder than you should to close every sale. Without a clear brand, the trust-building that should happen passively – through your website, your content, the way you show up visually – has to happen manually, in every conversation. You’re spending time in meetings explaining who you are and what makes you different, instead of having people arrive already convinced.
The financial hit from a weak brand shows up as a lower conversion rate and a sales process that drags on longer than it should. Strong brands command premium pricing because the perceived value is already established before the conversation about money even begins.
Good branding means every part of your business tells the same story: who you are, who you serve, and why it matters. The visuals, the words, the overall feeling someone gets when they encounter you anywhere all point in the same direction. When that’s working, sales gets easier.
